It is important to separate a personal parcel from a business purchase. Travelers carry things for you and your family; goods for sale, wholesale batches and shop samples require customs clearance and are sent via cargo or a carrier.

There are direct flights from Urumqi, Beijing and Guangzhou to Almaty, while to Astana and other Kazakh cities travelers often fly with a transfer. Search for a trip to the recipient’s city and ask the traveler when and where it is convenient to meet after arrival.

In China, arrange the handover in advance and close to the traveler’s route. Exchange contacts in a messenger they can use in both China and Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan applies EAEU duty-free allowances for personal-use goods. One or two items for yourself or as a gift usually raise no questions. Don’t hand over items whose composition you don’t know yourself, and don’t ask the traveler to understate the value or hide the contents — they are the one answering at the border.

The traveler photographs the parcel when taking it and enters the confirmation code when handing it to the recipient in Kazakhstan. Only then is your card charged, and all users go through an identity check.
