Students at Chinese universities, entrepreneurs, trade fair visitors and tourists travel between Kazakhstan and China all the time — especially since short trips became visa-free for citizens of both countries. They receive documents from home, forgotten items, gifts, medicines for personal use and Kazakh sweets.

There are direct flights from Almaty to Urumqi, Beijing, Guangzhou and other Chinese cities, while from other Kazakh cities travelers often fly with a transfer. Search for a trip to the city where the recipient lives: China is huge, and a flight from Urumqi to Shanghai is another domestic trip the traveler doesn’t have to make for your parcel.

It is best to meet in China near the airport or the area where the traveler is staying. Exchange contacts in advance in a messenger that works in China — familiar apps may be unavailable there.

Chinese customs is strict about animal products, fresh fruit, plants and seeds — don’t send meat delicacies or dairy products. Separate requirements apply to medicines, printed matter and electronics in more than personal quantities.

Documents, clothes, books and gifts in reasonable quantities usually pass without problems. If a traveler carries several identical new items, they may be treated as goods — so a JetJoin parcel should stay personal.

Describe the contents specifically and upload photos and videos of the items and packaging. Keep medicines in factory packaging with the leaflet, and scan documents.

Don’t hand over closed boxes whose contents the traveler doesn’t know. Power banks and spare batteries are checked particularly carefully in China: they need a readable capacity label and may only travel in cabin baggage.

There is no per-kilo rate: you offer a reward for the specific parcel, and the traveler agrees or names their own amount. On short direct flights from Almaty, a small item usually costs less than on long-haul routes. JetJoin’s sender fee is 15%.

Users go through an identity check, and the app has reviews. The traveler photographs the parcel when taking it and enters the confirmation code when handing it to the recipient in China — only then is your card charged.
