Parcels for family in Canada
Canada has a large Kazakh community: families move to Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary and Montreal, and students go there to study. Relatives send them documents, children’s clothes, holiday gifts, books and little things they can’t find there. Sending a small parcel across the ocean by courier is expensive and slow.
JetJoin helps you find someone already flying from Kazakhstan to Canada who is willing to take a small permitted item in their baggage. The platform does not carry parcels itself or store them: you agree with the traveler directly.
A long journey: what to know
Travelers between Kazakhstan and Canada usually fly with one or two transfers, for example via Istanbul, Frankfurt or London, and the journey takes more than a day. The parcel will go through several security checks, so everything inside must be allowed on every leg.
The time difference between Almaty and Toronto is about ten hours, and even more with Vancouver. Arrange the meeting in Canada with time to spare and keep in mind that after a long trip the traveler will prefer to hand over the parcel near the airport or where they are staying.
Canadian customs: what must be declared
Canada requires food, plants and animal products to be declared. Meat delicacies such as kazy and homemade preserves are best not sent at all: they may be seized, and the traveler will face extra questions at the border. Factory-packed sweets and tea are usually allowed but must also be declared.
Medicines are allowed in personal-use quantities in their original packaging. Gifts have value limits — send a receipt with expensive new items.
How to prepare the parcel
Describe the contents item by item and upload photos and videos of the items and packaging to JetJoin. On a long route with transfers, sturdy but openable packaging matters: inspection may take place at any of the airports.
Put documents in a folder and make scans. If the parcel contains electronics, name the model: batteries and power banks will travel in cabin baggage, not checked baggage.
Price and a safe deal
You offer a reward, and the traveler accepts it or discusses another amount. On long flights baggage space is worth more, so offer more for a bulky parcel than for an envelope. JetJoin’s sender fee is 15%.
Users go through an identity check, and the app has reviews. The traveler photographs the parcel when taking it and enters the confirmation code when handing it to the recipient in Canada — only then is your card charged.
