Who receives parcels in the UK, and what they need
Many students from Kazakhstan study at British universities, including Bolashak scholarship holders, and Kazakh families live and work in London and other cities. They regularly need things from home: forgotten documents, warm clothes, holiday gifts, certificates and original papers for study or work. A courier for one folder of documents or a small gift is often expensive and slow, and friends don’t fly every week.
JetJoin solves exactly this: it helps you find someone already flying from Almaty, Astana or another Kazakh city to the UK who is willing to take a small permitted item. It is not a cargo or courier service: the platform does not take parcels into a warehouse but connects the sender with a traveler, and they agree directly.
How the journey works and where to meet
Between Kazakhstan and the UK, travelers usually fly with a transfer — for example via Istanbul, Dubai or a European hub. This matters for your parcel: it will go through several security checks, and rules for liquids and batteries can differ between airlines. Ask the traveler about the full route before the handover.
Agree on the final city in advance too: London has several airports, and the recipient may live in Manchester, Birmingham or Edinburgh. It is usually easier to meet in the arrival city at an agreed time than to expect the traveler to go to an address.
What UK customs will let through
Since leaving the European Union, the UK has its own customs rules. Meat, sausages, dairy products and plants from non-EU countries are strictly restricted — don’t put kazy, kurt or homemade preserves in the parcel. Gifts have value limits, and medicines are allowed in personal-use quantities, ideally with a prescription or leaflet in English.
Documents, clothes, books, souvenirs and small gifts usually cause no problems. When leaving Kazakhstan, check the restrictions on cultural property and cash: never put banknotes in a parcel for a third party.
How to prepare the parcel for the traveler
Describe the contents specifically: not “a gift” but “a wool scarf and two books in Kazakh”. Upload photos and videos of the items and packaging to JetJoin — the traveler needs to understand what they will carry across two borders. Keep the packaging easy to open at inspection and close again.
Put original documents in a stiff folder and make copies or scans before the handover. If you are sending electronics, tell the traveler the model and battery type in advance: power banks, for example, may only travel in cabin baggage.
Price, payment and safeguards
There is no per-kilo rate: you offer the traveler a reward for the specific parcel, and they agree or suggest another amount. Documents and small gifts usually cost less; bulky items cost more, because baggage space on a long journey is valuable. JetJoin’s 15% sender fee is added on top.
All users go through an identity check, and the app has reviews. The traveler photographs the parcel when taking it and enters the confirmation code when handing it to the recipient in the UK — only then is your card charged.

Frequently asked questions
Can I send original documents for a UK university?
Yes, documents are among the most common parcels on this route. Put them in a stiff folder, keep copies and arrange an in-person meeting with the recipient in the arrival city.
Can I send Kazakh food such as kazy, kurt or sweets?
Meat and dairy products from non-EU countries may not be brought into the UK. Factory-packed sweets are usually fine, but check the current rules before the handover.
Are there direct flights from Kazakhstan to the UK?
Travelers usually fly with a transfer. Check the route in advance: baggage rules and arrival time depend on it.
How will the recipient collect the parcel in London?
Agree on the meeting place and time with the traveler before departure. The recipient meets them in person, and the traveler enters the sender’s confirmation code.
What if nobody is flying to the UK right now?
Turn on “Notify me about a new flight”. Students and families often travel around term starts and holidays — plan ahead.
