Send a parcel from Almaty to New York with a traveler

Sometimes you need to get documents, a family item or a small gift to New York, and waiting for an acquaintance to travel takes too long. JetJoin helps find a traveler who is planning a trip from Almaty to New York and is willing to consider carrying a permitted item. JetJoin is a platform for finding each other and agreeing on terms, not an airline or a courier service.

Flights between Almaty and New York usually involve a transfer. So ask the traveler about the whole route: where the transfer is, whether the baggage is re-checked and what rules each airline on the way applies.

In the search, set Almaty as the departure city and New York as the destination. Compare listings by departure date, expected arrival and free weight. Note which airport the traveler arrives at and whether the recipient can meet them in or near New York.

In the request, describe the contents, weight and size and propose a reward. The traveler decides whether to accept the offer, decline it or discuss other terms. If there is no suitable trip, use “Notify me about a new flight”.

List each item, its purpose and approximate value. Prepare photos and videos of the contents and packaging — the sender uploads them to JetJoin. The packaging should protect the item in the baggage while remaining accessible for inspection by the traveler and, if necessary, by security staff.

Mention electronics and batteries in advance: lithium batteries are subject to separate aviation restrictions. Do not ask the traveler to carry sealed boxes, other people’s parcels with unknown contents or items whose origin is unclear to them.

The route crosses a state border, so the rules for export from Kazakhstan and import into the US apply. US customs is strict about food, meat and dairy products, plants, seeds, medicines and goods for resale. Some items must be declared or are banned from import altogether.

Before the handover, check the requirements on the official websites of the customs authorities and airlines. The traveler carries the item in their own baggage and is responsible for declaring it, so an honest description of the contents is a must.

There is no single rate for the route: the sender proposes an amount, and the traveler weighs up the weight, size and convenience of the handover. Discuss who will meet the traveler in New York and where, how to get in touch if the flight is delayed and what to do if plans change.

All JetJoin users go through an identity check, and the payment is charged to the sender’s card only after the traveler confirms delivery with a code. Hand over the parcel in person, check the arrangements in the app and do not move communication or payment off the platform.
